We wrote about the great master of architecture, Gaudí, in our post on BD Barcelona Design and their reinterpretation of furniture pieces by Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dalí.

We love Barcelona, where we have run design projects for Asador de Aranda restaurants firm (addresses at Pau Clarís, Tibidabo and Londres streets), and we definitely love the silent footprint of Gaudí all over the city that will remain for centuries as a recall of a time when imagination was the only must to be named as part of modernism. Is it a requirement today to get in the list?

Casa Batlló, rebuilt and designed by Gaudí between 1904 and 1906 in the heart of Barcelona at the Paseo de Gracia (the original building was actually made in 1875) is the most emblematic work of the brilliant Catalan architect.

Gaudí gave Casa Batlló a facade that is original, fantastical and full of imagination. He replaced the original facade with a new composition of stone and glass. He ordered the external walls to be redesigned to give them a wavy shape, which was then plastered with lime mortar and covered with a mosaic of fragments of coloured glass and ceramic discs.

The owner, Mr. Josep Batlló i Casanovas, an entrepreneur involved in the textile industry, hired Gaudí, an already prominent architect at the time Barcelona, to develop a masterpiece of architecture for his home at the Eixample district and there´s no doubt he reached his goal.

Nowadays it is not a residence but the Museum of Modernism Antoni Gaudí.
